#TikTokMadeMeDoIt – Does Going Viral on TikTok Help Boost Your Sales?
TikTok has exploded in popularity over the last couple of years. But with so many other channels to focus on, is it worth your time as a business? Can it actually generate sales or is it just hype? And what’s the secret to going TikTok viral?!
Let’s take a look at some products that have gone viral on TikTok and how this has impacted product sales.
Aerie Leggings
After a video posted by Hannah Schlenker went viral and started appearing on everyone’s FYP, Aerie’s Crossover leggings sold out over and over again. At one point there was a waiting list with more than 150,000 people on it, and a tag (FYI #AerieLeggings) used more than 10,000 times
The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
A couple of The Ordinary’s skincare products have gone viral on TikTok, including its AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. You’ll definitely have seen this on skincare TikTok at some point. It sold out across the globe and became the product with the longest waiting list ever on Cult Beauty.
It’s an accessible product (y’know when it’s not on a 100k-long waiting list) that’s cheap, visually appealing and easy to use. It’s also meant to be really effective, so no wonder it went viral when it hit the FYP!
BlissLight
The #BlissLight tag has had almost 10 million views on TikTok. It’s a light projector that projects a starry sky across the room. It sold out and sprung up a variety of different versions from other brands. This in turn meant users created more content showing off the product, which led to more sales.
Zen Body Shower Head Filter
Weirdly enough, the #showerhead tag has over 150 million views, and this shower head is at the top of the tag with millions of views itself. It purifies water using maifan stones, to remove impurities that might be bad for hair or skin. It went out of stock, with the business working overtime to try and keep up with demand.
Little Moons
Mochi ice cream brand Little Moons went viral on TikTok, leading to a 700% surge in sales at Tesco and a 600% increase in sales overall. Over 53 million people have viewed the #LittleMoon tag and shops are struggling to keep up with demand in the UK. It seemed to pop up from nowhere and was short videos of people eating and reviewing the sweet treat.
What’s The Secret to Going Viral on TikTok?
First things first: authenticity. Many of the products that have gone viral haven’t gone viral from a brand sharing content – though there’s every chance they could stem from a well-placed influencer or native ad campaign, that’s never been confirmed – it’s from the users of the platform.
Understanding the platform and what people want to see, how the audience wants to interact, tags and trends/trending sounds on the platform are also key. The most important thing is to make it entertaining, useful, interesting and capture attention. No one is going to get involved with boring content.
You also want to create FOMO and create a call to action that makes people want to be involved. Keeping it simple and accessible is key too so that people can get involved easily.
