Why Do Some Influencers Make Us Smile So Much?

Sometimes, when you’re having a bad day, all it takes is coming across a funny post or video to make you smile.

One of the best parts about being an influencer is spreading joy through your content while having a great time yourself! One of the most important things you can do if you want to make funny content is enjoying the process because that authenticity will come across to your followers. We love working with influencers who have the power to make people smile at each&everyone. If you want to produce content that will prompt a smile, there are a few things to remember. We take a look at why Influencers make us smile!

Smiling is contagious

Have you ever found yourself laughing hysterically at a video that wasn’t even that funny, just because the person in the video is? There’s a reason for that.

Studies have shown that smiling is actually contagious, and so is laughter. When we see someone smile, it triggers our mirror neurons, which cause us to smile back. Smiling, in turn, triggers the release of endorphins, which makes us feel happy, which makes us smile or laugh even more.

So, if you want to create content that prompts a smile, one of the simplest things you can do is make sure that you’re having a good time while creating it and ensuring that this shines through in the finished product. Make sure you smile, and your audience will smile with you!

Pattern interrupt

An effective method that great influencers use to create a smile is to make use of pattern interrupt.

They do this by showing you something with a familiar pattern that you recognize and, once you’re hooked, surprise you with an unexpected twist.

A great example of pattern interrupt is in this video by the successful Instagram and YouTube illusion artist and influencer, Zach King.

He begins the video by telling the audience that he will share his parenting hacks for getting a child to sleep. Videos sharing parenting advice are familiar to a lot of people, and he makes use of this. So, as the video begins, we expect Zach to start dispensing advice, as would happen in other videos of the same type. But, instead, he treats us to an optical illusion.

Zach interrupts our ideas about what we thought would happen by doing something unexpected, which makes us smile.

It’s doubly effective because he’s used an illusion, which he is well known for, and so this is what his audience will want to see from him.

Real-life stories

At eaeo, we think that some of the most powerful influencers are authentic and tell a true story. Stories about real-life create a strong connection with the audience because it helps them feel that they can connect with the influencer personally. If you tell the right story, you can use this connection to create a smile.

We particularly connect to stories about real people overcoming real problems. Seeing these stories of everyday triumphs gives us hope for our own lives.

Humans of New York is a page on both Facebook and Instagram that tells individual stories about real people from New York. The stories are often touching, and they elicit smiles because of the human tenderness and vulnerability they show. The comments section is usually filled with people showing their support and admiration and sharing anecdotes from their lives.

If you want to help your audience smile, sharing your real-life stories can be a great start. It’s also essential to communicate with your audience in the comments section so that they can connect with you. The more connected we feel to an influencer, the more likely it is that we’ll smile when we read their posts. Not only this but you will often be offered helpful feedback in the comments section as your audience tells you what they like and don’t like. You can use the feedback to tweak your content so that it’s more likely to raise a smile in the future.

Relatable humour

If you want to get your audience smiling, one of the easiest ways is to talk about something that they recognize from their life. To truly be funny, you should talk about something that will relate to your audience, but that isn’t too obvious or predictable. Even better, talk about something that’s slightly taboo. Comedians often use observational humour in the same way.

Comedian Abi Clarke talks about the awful pain when you sit down after putting a tampon in slightly wrong… if you know, you know! It’s something that many people can relate to, but also not something that is ever talked about because the topic of periods is still treated as taboo.

Question is… is pulling out a dry one worse? 😅 #periods #comedy #tampons #girlhumour

If you want to make content that will make people smile, try to make light of things that your audience can relate to.

Demonstrating talents

We love watching people who can do things that we could never dream of doing! However, your audience will likely be left cold if they just see your talent and don’t connect with you. If you want to make your audience smile and resonate with them, you must show your abilities in a way that showcases your personality or in a new and surprising way.

TikTok is full of fantastic dancers, and the ones that do the best on the platform that manages to showcase their talent while showing their personality at the same time. For example, Alex Wong creates content filled with joy because he is so talented and because he has fun with the movements, like in this video where he and his dancer friend shop in Bed Bath and Beyond.

Is this the “Beyond” part of Bed Bath?! 😳🙊@samgach #dance #flexible #yoga #gymnastics

It’s the combination of talent, personality and giving the audience something unexpected that makes his videos so popular.
